Fond Reflections:
Like any quality experience in your life, you cannot put a
value on the good that a trip like this produces. The fun and laughs
alone would have made it worth while, but add to that the blessings of good
weather, magnificent scenery, fascinating places and people who came into our
lives, and it becomes a priceless adventure. Being able to go with good
friends who are truly "characters" and for our wives to be able to
join us for a weekend in Anchorage also made the whole experience special.
We received friendly and above average treatment at every stop and the flight
service consideration and help in both the US and Canada was courteous and
professional. Alaska is a land that caters to general aviation as it is
a primary way to get around. If you love to fly, discuss it and share
rich experiences, Alaska is the place to go. Many thanks to Dave and
Earl for their positive teamwork and to their families for all the hard work
and effort to make this trip possible.
Earl writes... 7000 miles and 57.5 hours of flight time—WHAT AN INCREDIBLE TRIP AND EXPERIENCE!!! It would have been very nice to finish the trip together. Jim flew back commercially from Fairbanks. David flew on alone from Whitehorse. But nonetheless, this was a fantastic, rewarding experience! Hopefully this wasn’t “the trip of a lifetime”, and there will be others! I personally thank David for all the incredibly hard, frustrating detail work he put into organizing this trip. He’s been at it for months—since December 2002. Thanks go to him too for the hours of tedious work he put into this website! Thanks to our wonderful supportive families, especially our “pilot wives” who patiently waited…….and waited. We wouldn’t have done it without their support.
David writes... What a trip! I echo Jim and Earl's comments above and add that it was great to achieve a goal that I have had for years (flying a small plane to Alaska). But, it would not have been near the thrill if Jim and Earl hadn't been along. They are great flying companions. I too want to say thanks to our wonderful wives and families. I guess they understand our addiction to flying. I have only one question. Where are we going next year?
