Home Up

Kim Roemer finished the Anchorage marathon in 5 hours!  For her first marathon, she said she was very happy as she finished a half hour sooner than  planned.  Said she was a little sore, but seemed none the worse for wear.

Thad and Kim will be taking the train up to Denali Park and to Fairbanks, then returning to Anchorage in a one-way rental car to meet up with all of us in a little over a week.

We are excited that Barbara Chapman will be able to fly up to Anchorage for the long 4th of July weekend.

Nell Roemer (Debbie's and Thad's sister) will be flying in from Philadelphia, PA next Wednesday.

Debbie and Noam leave out of Burbank Monday with a stop in Seattle, where Carol "mom" Roemer will be meeting them on the flight to Anchorage.  That gets the entire clan to Alaska.

Russian Flight Number

Spoke to Brian Staurseth at the FAA in Anchorage today.  He said everything should be worked out and to refax our request for a Flight Number to  Moscow on Wednesday.  We'll have to find someone, probably in Anchorage, to receive our fax back from Moscow.

At the recommendation of the Alaska FAA site, I ordered a copy of the Eurasia Jepp Charts.  Under the Entry Requirements section for Russia, I found a description of the rules for foreign aircraft operating in Russia.  It states that all flights into Russia require an escort navigator.  So our friend in Moscow was following procedure when he told us we'd need a navigator.  He just hadn't been updated that this VFR routing is actually an exception to the standard flight rules for foreign aircraft in Russia.  Learn something new.

All else is going well.
